It is as though our species has been devastated by a modern Black Plague. And indeed it has, but a plague of Power, not germs. The souls of this monstrous pile of dead have created a new land, a new nation, among us. In Shakespeare’s words, “This Land be called the field of Golgotha, and dead men’s skulls.”
